The rustic juniper beds featured on this page are examples of what I have made. All of these beds are made out of Western Juniper. And, all of my juniper beds this year cost $5000, regardless if it’s a king size or a single.
But, on my wholesale price page you can buy the raw juniper wood to make either a queen or king size bed. If you have some very basic woodworking skills this option can save you thousands of dollars. Included are the four corner posts and the pieces that go between the headboard and footboard, usually 5 pieces for the footboard and 5 pieces for the headboard.
I am somewhat flexible on the number and sizes of pieces. The headboard posts are usually 6 to 10 inches in diameter and 5 to 6 feet tall with the footboard posts in the 2 and a half foot to 3 foot tall range and a similar diameter as the headboard posts. I do not supply the wooden rails that the boxspring and mattress sit on.
The main thing to keep in mind when building a bed out of juniper is that in order to make something nice you need to let the wood do the work for you. If you try to force pieces to look good next to each other then that’s how the bed is going to appear when you’re finished with it.
Working with juniper is much more about the artistic side of yourself and the wood versus any woodworking skills you may have. I would rather have a picture in my mind about how I want the bed to look and then figure out later how I’m going to put it together.
Another way to do it to is to just build the bed and let the pieces decide where they need to go. Again, this is much more about the artistic nature of the wood doing the work for you versus having advanced woodworking skills. The juniper wood itself does the vast majority of the work for me just by the way it looks. Realizing and applying this way of thinking has saved me a lot of time and effort.
